Gender-based violence, or GBV, is when someone is the target of aggressive behavior based on their gender. It is a result of societal perceptions about gender roles and established gender inequality. It appears as acts that cause someone to suffer physically, sexually, or psychologically, or that damage their sense of dignity. This can involve depriving someone of their freedom or using coercive tactics.
